We’re pleased to share that we recently acquired and took under management Cary Place, a historic preservation multi-use property in Richmond, VA. We want to extend a warm welcome to our new residents! Welcome to University Property. We are Safe. Clean. Quality. Connected.™
Cary Place is in the Lower Fan section of Richmond, a short walk from Virginia Commonwealth University. A city block with four buildings bounded by Main, Cary, Randolph, and Harvie Streets, Cary Place was created by Eck Enterprises, an admired re-developer of Richmond’s historic preservation buildings. Richmond can thank Edgar Eck, his family and colleagues for the transformation of West Main Street into the vibrant residential and commercial neighborhood it is today. Mr. Eck introduced the bright, Caribbean colors to his projects which characterize much of The Fan.
Cary Place is home to tasteful apartments with visible historic preservation features plus the restaurants Postbellum and Little Mexico, as well as Maiden Motion and Blue Dog Properties. Today’s Cary Place has a long, varied history. One of the buildings, at 10 Randolph Street, was a flag factory many years ago. And 1980s graduates of VCU may remember the Lost Sock, a venue for having a beer (or three!) while doing laundry.
In the coming weeks we’ll be onboarding our residents and implementing our Safe. Clean. Quality. Connected.™ program. This will include some new branding that’s meant to highlight Cary Place’s rich history.
